Who we are
aquil.one is an indoor and apartment gardening platform. We provide personalised plant recommendations, a planting calendar, and a curated shop. Our website is at aquil.one.
What data we collect and why
We collect the following data:
- Location data — if you grant permission, we use your approximate location to determine your local weather and season. This is processed in your browser and passed to the Open-Meteo API (open-source, no personal data stored). We do not store your coordinates.
- Newsletter email address — if you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email to send weekly plant care letters. We use Resend (resend.com) to send emails. Your email is never sold or shared with third parties. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
- Garden account data — if you create a free account, we store your email address and the plant collection you build (plant names, watering schedules, calendar events). This data is stored securely in Supabase (supabase.com) and is never shared with third parties. You can request deletion at any time (see below).
- Anonymous click data — when you click a product link, we log the product ID, affiliate programme, your country (derived from your IP address at the network edge, not stored directly), and a random session ID not linked to your identity. This helps us understand which products are popular.
Affiliate links
Some links on this website are affiliate links. When you click one, you are directed to a third-party retailer (currently Amazon). The retailer may set cookies on your browser according to their own privacy policy. We may earn a small commission on purchases made through these links at no extra cost to you.
Cookies
We use only the following cookies — no advertising or tracking cookies:
- aq_sid (sessionStorage) — a random anonymous ID used to group your session's affiliate clicks. Not linked to any personal data. Deleted automatically when you close the browser tab.
- locale (cookie, 1 year) — stores your language preference (e.g. “en” or “it”). Contains no personal data. Functional cookie, required for the site to display in your chosen language.
- Supabase auth cookies (
sb-*) — set when you sign in to your garden account. Strictly necessary to keep you logged in. Deleted when you sign out or they expire.
We do not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies.
Your rights (GDPR)
If you are based in the EU, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent for email communications at any time
- Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority

Data retention
- Newsletter email — retained until you unsubscribe.
- Garden account data (email + plant collection) — retained until you delete your account. To delete your account and all associated data, email privacy@aquil.one and we will action it within 30 days.
- Anonymous click logs — retained for 12 months, then deleted.
- Location data — not retained; processed in-browser only.

- Supabase — authentication and garden data storage (supabase.com/privacy)
- Open-Meteo — weather data, no personal data shared (open-meteo.com)
- Nominatim / OpenStreetMap — reverse geocoding (osmfoundation.org/privacy)

Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site grows. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
